hydrodynamic design of contra-rotating propeller for the ships
this paper describes a contra-rotating propeller (crp) system to calculate the hydrodynamic characteristics and then design the optimum operational condition to be installed on two different large bulk carriers and vlcc. the method is based on boundary element method (bem) to obtain the hydrodynamic performance of any complicated configuration such as crp system, and then the optimum propeller ...
متن کاملAnalysis and Experiments for Contra - Rotating Propeller
Contra-rotating propellers have renewed interest from the naval architecture community, because of the recent development of electric propulsion drives and podded propulsors. Contrarotating propulsion systems have the hydrodynamic advantages of recovering part of the slipstream rotational energy which would otherwise be lost utilizing a conventional screw propeller system. The application of th...
متن کاملLarge eddy simulation of flow around a reverse rotating propeller
This paper studies the flow around a propeller rotating in the reverse direction in a uniform free stream. Large eddy simulation is used to study this massively separated flow at a Reynolds number of 480 000 and advance ratios J = −0.5, −0.7 and −1.0. Simulations are performed on two grids; statistics of the loads and velocity field around the propeller show encouraging agreement between the tw...
متن کاملRotating propeller solitons.
We demonstrate experimentally and theoretically (both analytically and numerically) a new type of spatial soliton: a rotating "propeller" soliton. This is a composite soliton made of a rotating dipole component jointly trapped with a bell-shaped component. We observe as much as 239 degrees of rotation over 13 mm of propagation (6.5 diffraction lengths).
متن کاملThe Development of a Decision Support System for Propeller Design
The development of any design support system (DSS) is complex. It depends on the task being supported and the organization that is going to use it including its present design practices. This paper describes the initial steps in developing a DSS for marine propeller design based on the process carried out at HSVA (Hamburg Ship Model Basin). We follow a structured approach for this development. ...
